We’re looking for a Data Quality Analyst to join our Technology and Data team.  In this role you’ll be involved in building on our consistent and effective approach towards data quality across the First Central Group, so colleagues can understand the quality of data available to them to drive business value. You’ll collaborate with Data Stewards and Data Custodians across the business to continually improve data quality and allow all colleagues to skilfully optimise First Central’s data.

As the Data Quality Analyst, you’ll bring to life the importance of effective data quality through engaging storytelling.  You’ll need to adopt a practical approach tailored to business needs so that our colleagues can trust our data in order to innovate and experiment with it confidently.  Under your watchful eye, colleagues will recognise the reliability of First Central’s data and be confident that any issues are known and being addressed.

Could you fit the bill? We're big on working flexibly - you'll spend most of your time working from home, with occasional visits to the office.  But of course, it’s your choice - if you prefer to be in the office more - that's good with us too.  We've offices located in Haywards Heath, West Sussex and Salford Quays, Manchester it’s your choice – if you live further afield, we will accept applications for remote workers! 

You’ll be the perfect person for us if:  

  • You’re a born data detective.
  • You understand that data quality isn’t just about systems – People and Process play a massive role too.
  • You have been working in Data Quality or, at the very least, Data Management for a minimum of two years, ideally within an Insurance or Financial Services organisation.
  • You love collaborating with colleagues inside and outside of your team but can work alone when a task calls for that.
  • You have an understanding of General Insurance data.
  • You have experience or an interest in opportunities that Data Science, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence can bring to Data Quality.

What’s involved:

  • Support the delivery of the Data Quality Strategy to enable the achievement of overall business ambitions and outcomes.
  • Work with Data Stewards across the business to define, document and prioritise robust Data Quality rules.
  • Work with IT colleagues and the wider Data and Analytics team to embed key Data Quality rules.
  • Work with Data Stewards, IT colleagues and the wider Data and Analytics team to undertake diagnostic Data Quality profiling, defect resolution and root cause analysis to meet regulatory requirements and to continuously improve the quality of our data.
  • Aid in the identification and mitigation of all key Data Quality risks.
  • Help to drive a culture of Data Quality by design, effectively engaging and partnering with colleagues across the business.
  • Aid in the facilitation of and be an active member of the Data Management Group. providing clear updates on progress and ensuring key issues are surfaced.
  • Promote a culture of agile working, accountability, continuous improvement, and psychological safety within the team and across the business.
  • Identify engaging mechanisms to communicate key Data Quality themes effectively to colleagues across the business.
  • Comply with the requirements, and act in accordance with, the Group Code of Conduct and Fitness and Propriety policies always.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Policies, Values and guidelines and other relevant standards/ regulations at all times.
     

Job-specific competencies

  • Detail-oriented but with the ability to present key findings and recommendations about the quality of data at a higher level.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the tenacity to unravel complex data issues.
  • An eye for spotting process improvement opportunities.
  • Experience of monitoring Data Quality Rules and/or using Data Quality, Data Observability or Metadata tools advantageous.
  • Strong Excel skills as well as competency in PowerPoint, Word and Teams
  • Basic SQL/Pyspark/Databricks/Azure Data Studio knowledge is advantageous but not essential.

Experience & knowledge

  • Good understanding of all aspects of Data Quality, including business rule definition, diagnostic profiling, defect resolution and root cause analysis to drive continual improvement.
  • Experience of assessing and driving improvement in Data Quality.
  • Experience of taking complex information and translating into easily digestible information for less technical colleagues.
  • Knowledge of FCA requirements (including individual responsibilities in relation to Consumer Duty).
  • Experience of building strong mutually beneficial relationships across a business
  • Experience of driving continual improvement through agile ways of working
  • Experience of General Insurance data practices and processes would be advantageous.

  • Relationship management, for example creating strong working relationships and building trust with internal and external stakeholders quickly.
  • Storytelling, for example using stories and analogies to better communicate and connect with colleagues on the topic of Data Quality.
